University Park Classic Kitchen Remodel
Award-Winning Project

Homeowner Desired Outcome
These homeowners wanted to move to an area renowned for its fantastic school system. When they found this University Park home, it met most of their family’s functional needs, with the exception of the kitchen and breakfast nook. When these homeowners came to Blackline Renovations, they had a desire to increase the usable space of their kitchen, improve the overall circulation and flow in the room and update the aesthetics while retaining the home’s older charm and character.
Our Creative Solution
Our company created a design plan that enlarged the existing footprint of the kitchen, which solved the immediate layout deficiencies, and included the aesthetic improvements the client desired.
By carefully positioning walls and doors to control foot traffic, flow can be improved in homes with separate rooms without sacrificing traditional features. Blackline Renovations dramatically improved the home’s room flow by repositioning the main dividing wall between the original kitchen and breakfast nook and removing the existing partition walls. This new open-concept kitchen/family room space was further enhanced with the widening of the doorways, creating proper access to each room on the first floor.
Our design for the new kitchen included a large island with seating for three, additional storage, and countertop space for a growing family. The plan also included an adjacent casual dining table, which opened up the kitchen into the family room.
The successful completion of this kitchen hinged on blending together both modern and vintage styles. The use of contrasting elements in materials and finishes created a coastal/industrial feel that suited the family’s personal design style while preserving the older charm of the home. The white shaker-style cabinetry, Carrara marble countertops, farm sink, and richly stained wood flooring anchor the space with traditional elements. These features were beautifully balanced with the modern and sophisticated look of the custom metal vent hood, stainless steel appliances, and other metal accent pieces. The functional and aesthetic design elements of this kitchen remodel make for a stunning end result.
