Homeowner Desired Outcome

With a vision in mind, this Blackline Renovations client came to us needing to improve the kitchen layout to maximize the square footage and update the aesthetics with contemporary finishes and materials. The existing kitchen was small and lacked storage or counter space. Moreover, all the existing appliances were freestanding, even the dishwasher.

OUR CREATIVE SOLUTION

Like many homes built in the 1920s, this kitchen was separated into two spaces—the cooking/prep area and the breakfast/eating area. Our design plan included removing the full interior wall that divided these two areas to create one large kitchen space. To further expand the living space and make it feel more spacious and inviting, we created a large opening between the breakfast nook and the dining room. To maintain a degree of separation between the kitchen and dining room, we installed a bar height peninsula for casual kitchen eating. By reconfiguring the appliances back into the space, the new layout provided better functionality and increased storage capacity.

Decorating a home that feels fresh and modern without being sterile or cold is a delicate balance. By focusing on the finishes, this contemporary kitchen remodel now dares to impress.

New modern finishes were installed throughout the kitchen to achieve the look the homeowners desired. To balance the craftsman style home, horizontal lines were utilized in this transformation. Stunning full-overlay bamboo cabinetry, linear cabinet pulls, and tile were all run horizontally to create a uniform look. To balance the warm wood toned bamboo, contrasting Caesarstone quartz countertops in the “Concrete” color were installed throughout.

The result is a beautiful, contemporary kitchen that blends modern finishes with traditional craftsman details to create a unique kitchen loved by the homeowners.
