Homeowner Desired Outcome

This homeowner fell in love with the antique charm of their 1916 colonial-style home but sought to update it while preserving its historical integrity. The goal was to create a design that reflected their personal style while maintaining cohesion with the home’s original character.

The kitchen, in particular, required significant improvements for both functionality and aesthetics. The original layout lacked a working island, forcing the use of a standalone piece of furniture. Entertaining was also a key focus of the remodel.

OUR CREATIVE SOLUTION

To enhance the space, we introduced a true kitchen island to improve workflow and functionality.

The once all-white cabinetry was transformed with warm wood and brass accents, adding depth and character to the space. Wallpaper was removed, and fresh paint was applied, creating a cleaner canvas that allows key fixtures to take center stage.

The kitchen’s flow was dramatically improved with the addition of a central island featuring a sink, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal. Taj Mahal countertops, a mosaic tile backsplash, and statement lighting were incorporated to elevate the space’s aesthetic. To complement the design and support the owner’s love for entertaining, a stylish and accessible bar cabinet was added, providing a practical yet elegant solution for serving drinks.

The laundry room was completely reworked for better practicality and aesthetics, while a custom mudbench was added to the mudroom to maximize previously wasted space.

Plain glass cabinetry was replaced with stylish wire inserts, offering a balance of openness and privacy, perfect for showcasing items without full exposure.

To honor the original charm of the home, we retained the old-school flooring concept but refreshed it with a new color and pattern for a timeless yet updated feel.

The final result is a thoughtfully redesigned layout that seamlessly blends modern functionality with timeless charm. Every detail was carefully considered to upgrade the space in every way, while honoring the original character and craftsmanship of the home’s era.
